Humans Once Believed These Animals Existed, These Will Crack You Up

We, humans have an excellent time imagining things. We are creative beings after all. It was yesterday when I was sitting with my niece, and I saw her draw a giant horned rabbit on her sheet. From fur-bearing trout to a giant horned rabbit, people have a lot of imaginary animals.

Excellent imaginations or reality?

We are the most creative beings of all time and we do have excellent imagination skills.

Let's got through some of the mythical animals that have been prevalent for a long time now

1. Unicorn

.Unicorns are magnificent and noble creatures that have enchanted young and old across the globe and through the ages. They are both a symbol of purity and goodness and the personification of untamed freedom. Many cultures throughout the world have their own version of the unicorn myth, but most depict them as white horses with a long horn extending from the forehead. The horn is usually spiralled, which makes light dance across the body of the animal as the sun shines down upon it.

The majestic unicorn makes an appearance in the Bible (Numbers 24:8), medieval text, and a number of other places throughout history. Even Roman historians believed in the existence of unicorns. While these stories are incredible, it's impossible to know what animal unicorns were mistaken to be. Unfortunately, unicorns never existed despite numerous accounts.

Unicorns are often associated with rainbows and fair maidens. According to legend, unicorns can only be captured by maidens alone in the forest. Unlike most mythical animals, which seem to be based on humanity's deepest fears, most unicorn tales convey an animal that is quite gentle and good. Unicorn lore dates back several thousand years, and occasional "sightings" are still being reported today.

2. Bonnacon

The Bannacon is really hard to believe imaginary creature looks like a bull with inward-curving horns and a horse-like mane. This imaginary creature never uses its horns for self-defence instead use its acidic poop as a shot of fire on its enemies. This imaginary creature can shoot acidic feces over 600 meters towards their enemies.
In Asia an animal is seen which men call bonnacon. It has the head of a bull, and thereafter its whole body is of the size of a bull's with the maned neck of a horse. Its horns are convoluted, curling back on themselves in such a way that if anyone comes up against it, he is not harmed. But the protection which its forehead denies this monster is furnished by its bowels. For when it turns to flee, it discharges fumes from the excrement of its belly over a distance of three acres, the heat of which sets fire to anything it touches. In this way, it drives off its pursuers with its harmful excrement.

3. Vegetable Lamb

The vegetable lamb was believed to have blood, bones, and flesh like that of a normal lamb. It was connected to the earth by a stem, similar to an umbilical cord, that propped the lamb up above ground. The cord could flex downward, allowing the lamb to feed on the grass and plants surrounding it. Once the plants within reach were eaten, the lamb died. It could be eaten, once dead, and its blood supposedly tasted sweet like honey. Its wool was said to be used by the native people of its homeland to make head coverings and other articles of clothing. The only carnivorous animals attracted to the lamb-plant (other than humans) were wolves.

The peculiar story of the Vegetable Lamb began in the Middle Age. Rabbi Yohanan of Jerusalem is credited with popularising the myth. What exactly was the Vegetable Lamb supposed to be? Well, this special lamb was said to be grown like a plant. It's rather difficult to believe people once believed this story.

4. Aspidochelone

It is believed in ancient age that there is a monster in the sea which in Greek is called aspidochelone, in Latin "asp-turtle". It is a great whale, that has what appear to be beaches on its hide, like those from the sea-shore. This creature raises its back above the waves of the sea, so that sailors believe that it is just an island, so that when they see it, it appears to them to be a sandy beach such as is common along the sea-shore. Believing it to be an island, they beach their ship alongside it, and disembarking, they plant stakes and tie up the ships. Then, in order to cook a meal after this work, they make fires on the sand as if on land. But when the monster feels the heat of these fires, it immediately submerges into the water, and pulls the ship into the depths of the sea.
The Aspidochelone was said to be a sea creature looks like a large whale or vast sea turtle with huge spines on its back which looked like as an island. Of course, a sea creature with an island on its back never found and it’s still just found in Christian and medieval text and in our imaginations.

5. Jackalope

The Jackalope is a mythical animal of North American Folklore described as a jackrabbit with antelope horns.

In the 1930's, Douglas Herrick and his brother, hunters with taxidermy skills, popularised the American jackalope by grafting deer antlers onto a jackrabbit carcass and selling the combination to a local hotel in Douglas, Wyoming.
Probably the only one of the list that we ‘want’ to be real, right? Also, they might be the only one on the list that are most believable.Story of this horned rabbits go back to the 17th century when several people reportedly saw the creature. However, they are now only found in our homes and minds.

6. De Loys'Ape

The creator of this myth is Swiss explorer François De Loys' and that’s where the name comes from.It appears that he was only seeking attention because if it was true, our planet would have been taken over and be called as Planet of the Apes.Ring any bells? This is why De Loy’s Ape was shortly dismissed as a hoax along with the picture that he took to prove his credibility.

According to de Loys' later report, in 1920, while camped near the Tarra River, two large creatures approached the group. Initially, de Loys thought they were bears, but then noted that they were monkey-like, holding onto shrubs and branches. The creatures – one male, one female – seemed angry, said de Loys, howling and gesturing, then defecating into their hands and flinging feces at the expedition. Fearing for their safety, the expedition shot and killed the female, the male then fled. De Loys and his companions recognised that they had encountered something unusual. The animal resembled a spider monkey, but was much larger.

7. Dragons

Dragon mythology extends back through the ages at least 4,000 years. They are commonly depicted as large flying reptiles that breathe fire or shoot deadly poison from their nostrils. Tales of these giant beasts date to the dawn of human existence. They have also inspired many a young warrior to take up arms, bravely trying to prevent a malevolent dragon from consuming a fair maiden. On the other hand, some cultures actually revere the dragon for being gentle and wise. In China, dragons are a symbol of courage and heroism and are seen as protectors of the community.

They do not exist or to be precise, have never existed. However, it was a Chinese scholar Lei Xiao who first talked about fire-breathing beasts.Having made number of appearances in dozens of movies and TV series, luckily they only exist in our imaginations and on TV screens.
